A Day in the Life of a Canadian College Student: From Rooftop Breaks to Co-op Workshops
What’s it really like to study at Canadian College in downtown Vancouver?
To answer that, let’s follow Takeshi, one of our international students, through a typical day. His experience highlights what makes student life here so unique — practical learning, a strong support system, and the energy of one of Canada’s most dynamic cities.
Morning: Independent Study and Campus Vibes
Takeshi usually starts his day early with some self-study. Whether it’s reviewing lecture notes, finishing a group assignment, or preparing for an upcoming exam, he often finds a quiet corner in our student lounge or library.
The campus is set up for focus — modern study areas, fast Wi-Fi, and an environment that encourages productivity. It’s the kind of place where students feel motivated to stay on track and push themselves.
Midday: Classes and Career Support
After his study session, Takeshi heads to class. Today it’s a core course from the IT Co-op Diploma, where students get hands-on training in areas like cybersecurity, networking, or system administration.
Classes at Canadian College are intentionally small. Instructors know students by name, and the learning style is interactive and career-focused. On top of that, Takeshi joins a co-op workshop this afternoon — a key part of the program that helps students get job-ready. Topics include resume writing, interview preparation, and navigating the local job market.
Lunch: Rooftop Breaks with a View
By lunchtime, Takeshi meets up with friends on the campus rooftop patio. This space is a favorite for many students — surrounded by the Vancouver skyline and mountain views, it’s a perfect spot to take a breather between classes.
Students from all programs — IT, Business, Hospitality, and International Trade — gather here, so it’s a great opportunity to meet people from around the world and build your network in an informal, friendly setting.
Afternoon: Practical Work and Real-World Skills
In the afternoon, Takeshi might be working on a group project or attending a lab session. Canadian College programs are built around practical, job-ready skills. Whether it’s setting up a secure server or analyzing business case studies, students are encouraged to collaborate and problem-solve in real time.
On some days, guest speakers and employer panels are hosted on campus — giving students the chance to hear directly from hiring managers and industry professionals.
Evening: City Life or Study Time
After class, Takeshi either explores the city — a walk by the seawall, checking out local restaurants, or a quick gym session — or goes home to continue his assignments. Like many Canadian College students, he balances academics with a part-time job, gaining valuable Canadian work experience before graduation.
